Marian Gaborik Scores 4 Goals In Win

During the New York Rangers loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, Marian Gaborik was benched by head coach John Tortorella after logging just 12 minutes of ice-time. Said the Rangers coach after the game: "Some guys just need to score a goal to gain some confidence. We need production from him. We need some of our skill guys to score a goal."

Whether the benching sparked something inside of the Rangers forward is certainly up for some debate, but there's no denying that something got through to Gaborik on Wednesday as he scored four goals in the Rangers 7-0 dismantling of a Toronto Maple Leafs team that couldn't seem to get out of its own way. Gaborik finished the game with five points and even had a pretty big hit on Kris Versteeg early in the second period. It's the 13th hat trick of his career -- and third of the season -- as well as his second four-goal game. He scored five as a member of the Minnesota Wild back in 2007 in a game against the Rangers.

It was clearly Gaborik's best game of what's been an inconsistent season for the mega-talented winger. After Wednesday's goal-scoring outburst, which came on the heels of an eight-game goal-less drought, Gaborik now has 15 goals on the season. Here's the thing about that total: they've all come in just seven games throughout the season, with 10 of them coming in just three (his three games with a hat trick). That's about as hot and cold as a player can get.
