Detroit Red Wings fans have gone from sad to worse. Two days after learning defenseman Brad Stuart will miss the next six to eight weeks with a broken jaw -- which resulted in a six-game suspension to his attacker, Calgary's Tom Kostopoulos -- the Red Wings announced Monday that goalie Chris Osgood will also miss the next six to eight weeks with a sports hernia.
"If the doctor sees a significant tear, it'll be closer to eight weeks," Red Wings GM Ken Holland told the Detroit Free Press. "If not, it'll be closer to six (weeks). We won't know until the doctor goes in there and sees how bad it is."
Osgood will undergo surgery Tuesday in Philadelphia, the Free Press reported. Dr. William Meyer is scheduled to perform the operation.
Osgood had experienced pain in the groin area for the past two months and pulled up lame in Saturday's practice. After flying home Sunday, he went on to Philadelphia Monday, where the extent of the injury was diagnosed and plans were made for Tuesday's surgery.
