Has a colossal screw-up ever worked out better for two people than Jim Joyce's inability to tell the difference between being safe and out has worked out for Joyce and Armando Galarraga? They were both lavished with praise throughout the rest of the 2010 season following the June 2 Imperfect Game for the way they handled a difficult situation with honesty (Joyce) and good humor (Galarraga). Now, like any good Americans placed in the spotlight, they have found a way to cash in on their 15 minutes of fame.
Joyce told the Detroit News that he and Galarraga are working on a book project about the aftermath of his decision to call Jason Donald safe on what would have been the 27th out of a perfect game. It's a great story, but it is one that has been told to death, leaving us to wonder just how much there is left to say about the incident.
