Luke Richardson Speaks Out About Daughter's Suicide

OTTAWA -- During an NHL career that spanned two decades, Luke Richardson (pictured at a 2009 pregame ceremony) had a reputation has a hard-nosed defenseman who didn't back down from a challenge.

Richardson and his family are facing the greatest challenge of their lives and he spoke about it in public for the first time Wednesday since his 14-year-old daughter, Daron Richardson, committed suicide in November.

With his wife Stephanie at his side, Richardson announced an annual fundraising drive to support the effort to identify and treat suicidal young people.

The first annual Do It For Daron (D.I.F.D.) Purple Pledge Day seeks to raise both money and awareness.
