Jim Edmonds Signs With Cardinals, Putting Off Retirement for Now

Jim EdmondsJim Edmonds isn't ready to hang it up just yet. The veteran outfielder, who appeared headed for retirement as an injury-plagued 2010 wound to a close, signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals on Friday.

Edmonds, of course, enjoyed some of his best years in St. Louis, starring for the Cardinals from 2000-07 after being traded there by his original team, the Angels.

The 40-year-old spent most of last year with the Brewers after sitting out the 2009 season. The Reds acquired him in August for the stretch run, but an oblique injury suffered almost immediately upon arrival in Cincinnati limited him to only 13 games with the Reds and had him talking retirement.
