D.C. United announces 2011 home opener

Washington, D.C. ? D.C. United?s 16th season will kick-off on Saturday, March 19, 2011 when the Columbus Crew visit RFK Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be the first time in club history that United has faced the Crew in the season-opener.

David Fay Retiring as Head of USGA

David Fay has decided to retire from the U.S. Golf Association after 21 years as the executive director, leaving behind a legacy that includes his successful push to stage the U.S. Open on golf courses where everyone can play.

Fay turned 60 two months ago and said Friday that the USGA was in a good place for him to leave. Mike Butz, the deputy executive director, will take over until the USGA can conduct a national search for Fay's replacement.

Never afraid to take chances, Fay was behind bringing the U.S. Open to Bethpage Black in New York in 2002. It was such a big success that it returned in 2009, along with going to another public course at Torrey Pines in 2008.

Fay also suggested staging the men's and women's U.S. Open a week apart on the same course, at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2014.

Actors Mark Wahlberg (pictured at right) and Will Smith have portrayed real-life boxers in blockbuster movies -- Wahlberg playing Micky Ward in new film "The Fighter," and Smith, Muhammad Ali in 2001's "Ali." Now, they may get to try on their boxing chops for real -- on each other.

Damon Feldman, CEO of Hollywood Boxing Federation, is offering each fighter $1 million to fight in a Feb. 26 fight in Las Vegas.

But if they fought, who would win? FanHouse posed the question of fighters and trainers at The Goossen Gym in Van Nuys, Calif.

John MacLean Replaced by Jacques Lemaire as Devils Coach

The New Jersey Devils have reportedly fired head coach John MacLean. Jacques Lemaire will return to the Devils for his third stint, this time as an interim coach. Lemaire "retired" last spring after the Devils lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The news, first broken by the website of CKAC Radio in Montreal, has been confirmed by Star-Ledger (NJ) columnist Steve Politti, who cited a source "who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the decision."

As of 10:15 a.m. Thursday, the Devils had yet to make an official announcement of the coaching change.

MacLean, a popular player from the Devils' Stanley Cup teams, was 9-22-2 in his first season as head coach. The Devils and New York Islanders, who face each other Thursday night in New Jersey, are tied for last in the NHL with 20 points.

Lemaire is expected to be behind the bench against the Islanders on Thursday. Although he was coached by him briefly at the end of last season, Devils right wing Ilya Kovalchuk said Lemaire was the best coach he ever played for.
